The Field Rose Rosa arvensis is autochthonous across all the south-west counties. I always feel that it ought to be called the woodland rose, as it is more at home on a damp woodland floor than it is in a field. Actually, I’ve never seen one in a field! Other than in field hedgerows.
It is of botanical interest as the only British native member of the section Synstylae, with exserted (protruding) styles united into a column.
At Trebrown Nurseries we maintain our own registered seed stands on Trebrown Farm, which remain the only seed stand registered in Cornwall. Rosa arvensis is not a FRM controlled species, but is certified under the voluntary FRM scheme.
